Still making some things from time to time, and now I've started a crafty / foodie blog if you want to check it out. Thanks for checking in!
I've started some new projects if you want to check them out. I've started a family history blog and started making soap, lotion, lotion bars, and lip balm. And I still bake and make confections on occasion, but it's getting hot, so anything having a fancy chocolate shell will be on hold for a while. Thanks for your continued interest!
Sorry to disappoint anyone, but I've had to close tomatette's doors. The day job has just been taking up too much time and costs have become too prohibitive. I've stopped taking orders from Philz and yoCup, and I've shut down my store on Foodoro.com. It's too bad - Chocolate.com recently contacted me about being a vendor. I realized when I was more sad that they were asking than happy that it just wasn't the right amount of fun anymore. Thank you so much for your support! Perhaps some time and money-laden day in the future, tomatette will reopen it's doors. And, maybe even more time after that, the doors will be real doors instead of virtual ones! :) Here's to hoping!
Foodoro.com just started selling my milk chocolate Matcha Green tea truffles and my dark chocolate Philz Coffee Tantalizing Turkish truffles! Check out my store. The Creamery has been taking a break on my truffles, so if you need your fix, head over to Philz where they still have them stocked. :)
Philz Coffee Shop at 201 Berry St. in San Francisco is also trialling my coffee truffles made with Philz Jacob's Wonderbar Brew and Tantalizing Turkish!
The Farmers' Market crowd turned out not to be the best place for me. So, I searched out other avenues, and have finally landed a trial at The Creamery - a new cafe in San Francisco at 4th and Townsend. They are now selling my coffee truffles, made with the Ritual coffee that they sell there. I'm hoping to get them to carry more of my products soon and will be bringing them more samples. More updates soon when I find out how they're doing! :)
All the paperwork is in and I'm having my grand opening at the Millbrae Farmers' Market this Saturday, November 8, 2008! Check out my Market Schedule page to see what goodies will be available. Hope to see you there!
I got my Farmers' Market Vehicle certification! Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have my grand opening at the Millbrae Farmers' Market!
I finally made it into a commercial kitchen. If you are one of my current customers, you may have noticed that my prices have gone up significantly. The kitchen charges by the hour, so prices have to go up to cover the cost. I hope you will still find my creations deliciously deserving of their new cost. ☺
Wanting to make a positive difference for the environment, I searched endlessly for delicious, eco-friendly candy suppliers. Although there are a handful of organic candy companies out there, none of the candies seemed as beautiful or as tasty as their fancy artisan non-organic counterparts. And, many of these companies individually wrapped their candies and used lots of plastic, or used overly large boxes, which I'm sure is to protect the candy during shipping. I was searching for companies that made an effort to make a positive environmental difference not just with their ingredients, but with their packaging too.
After many hours searching on the web and reading candy magazines, finding nothing that exactly matched what I was looking for, I had a crazy idea. Could I make my own beautiful candy that fit my criteria? It seemed ludicrous to me that I could, seeing as I had always felt that it took some mysterious magic to turn table sugar into a delicious confection. But, having baked a lot in my past, I decided to finally break out my unused candy thermometer as my wand, and attempt to cast some candy incantations.
Many messes in the kitchen later, with results ranging from detestable to delectable, I decided it might be possible to start up my own artisan candy business, using eco-conscious ingredients and packaging. Being a localvore at heart, I decided I would start at a farmer's market, and Tomatette was born.
But, I'm not there yet... still trying to iron things out to start my fledgling business. At this point, I'm perfecting my recipes and still trying to jump through all the legal and financial hoops to achieve my little dream of having a stand at the Millbrae Farmers' Market. And, that's where you come in. My latest hoop to jump through is to get a Certified Farmers' Market Vehicle. I'll be using the proceeds from any candy you order from me towards it.
Thanks for visiting my site! Please have a look around!
